Job Description
Summary
Work may involve any of the following: setting up and operating fabricating machines to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal; shaping metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hammer; operating soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts; or inspecting, assembling, and smoothing seams and joints of burred surfaces.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Forms all shapes and sizes of sheet metal as per drawings or work instructions.
- Projects require the fabrication of complex, unique and one-of-a-kind parts.
- Apply a comprehensive, intensive, and practical knowledge base of experience and a wide range of skills to develop innovative methods to produce high tolerance finished components and models.
- Use analytic techniques and technical knowledge to diagnose and determine root cause of fit and finish deviations and other fabrication issues.
- Ability to setup, operate and troubleshoot all standard conventional sheet metal equipment.
- Ensure all finished components meet the highest quality and inspection standards.
- Follow all safety procedures and protocols in manufacturing environment.
Required Skills/Abilities
- May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, and ground support equipment.
- Knowledge of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce structural components and equipment.
- Advanced knowledge of engineering design and manufacturing procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints.
- Proficiency with metal fabrication tools including shears, rollers, flame cutters, and drill presses.
- Advanced mathematical and engineering skills.
Education And Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- 2-3 years’ experience as a Sheet Metal Mechanic working on commercial construction projects.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment requiring awkward stances and positions such as stooping, twisting, and reaching for periods of time throughout an 8-to-10-hour day.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
