Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Company: Altus Engineering

Compensation: $20-25/hr.

Location: Fort Cavazos, Texas

Position Overview: Altus Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Laboratory Technician to join our team in support of the US Army’s Oil Analysis Program (AOAP). As a part of this lubricant analysis program, you will play a vital role in identifying faults and preventing severe damage to military weapons systems.

  • Note that this position may be filled by our subcontractor, MRG Labs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize lab equipment to conduct tests of oil samples in accordance with standardized operating procedures.
  • Perform monthly standardization, adjustments, and certification of lab equipment using standards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • Identify and report any quality issues or potential concerns and assist with corrective actions.
  • Manage inventory levels of consumables, spare parts, and supplies to minimize waste and maintain availability.
  • Enter data into the Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Occasionally perform special tests on other materials under the guidance of supervisors or engineers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of post-secondary education (An associate degree is preferred). Degrees must be from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education.
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • Note: An ICML LLA I certification must be obtained within twelve months of hire and maintained. Altus and MRG Labs offer training, materials, and assistance to help team members achieve this requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Former Air Force Nondestructive Inspection Specialist (2A7X2), Medical Laboratory Specialist (4T0X1), Biomedical Equipment (4A2X1 ), Navy AD (Aviation Machinist’s Mates), EN (Enginemen), GSM (Gas Turbine Systems Technician), MM (Machinist’s Mate), or MMA (Machinist’s Mate Auxiliary) ratings with NEC 768A code and Army 15B, 15D, 15T, 15U, 91A, 91B, 91M, 91D, 68K, 68O, 68Q series MOS.
  • Active DoD SECRET security clearance.
  • Experience in performing preventive maintenance and repairs on military equipment.
  • Knowledge of wear metal identification in engines, transmissions, gearboxes, and hydraulic systems.
  • Nondestructive test equipment operation and maintenance, safety practices, and handling of hazardous waste and materials in compliance with applicable directives.
  • Familiarity with Ferrography, Titration, Laser Net Fines, fuel dilution test, Karl Fisher, Pall water sensor, and physical property tests for evaluating oil/lubricants.
  • On-the-job training in oil analysis, analytical chemistry, reliability engineering, or condition monitoring (mechanical machinery).

Additional Requirements

  • Regular reporting to the assigned Army base AOAP laboratory.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support workloads at other oil analysis laboratories, which will be provided by the employer.
  • Ability to commute/relocate:
    • Fort Cavazos: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)
