Job Description
Position Summary:
Director Engineering & Operations who can demonstrate strategic and tactical leadership skills while having exemplary engineering and process improvement skills. Responsible for managing and coordinating employees whose activities are related to the design, development, launch, support and manufacture of world leading handheld sensor instrumentation.
Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises/overseas engineering team members (software, electrical, mechanical, systems) & manufacturing in a defined project environment, setting goals and directing career paths.
- Planning and prioritization of NPI projects and sustaining efforts
- Set technical goals within broad outlines provided by the business
- Works with cross-functional groups to coordinate needs, issues, and expectations of engineering and manufacturing team.
- Routinely communicate project status to team and organization, including raising awareness for program issues and driving to resolutions
- Assists in driving and coordinating formal gate reviews.
- Deep understanding of process improvement sufficient to coordinate manufacturing process changes across functional departments.
- Interact directly with customers in the development of new products and to communicate the Company’s technology capabilities in providing solutions in response to customer request
- Ability to work independently, when necessary, and to interface with multidisciplinary teams, working across departmental boundaries

Experience and skills required:
- Industrial supervisory or management of engineering & manufacturing teams.
- Strong people/department management skills.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Talent for driving timely, tangible results, despite ambiguity or uncertainty.
- Solid interpersonal skills, including the ability to coach team members and foster positive working relationships with all levels of the organization and our external partners.
- Effectively communicate complex, often technical content.
- Strong critical thinking skills.
- Willingness and flexibility to adapt to changing requirements.
- Highly experienced in hardware design & development processes across a wide range of disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, industrial design, usability/human-factors, and manufacturing.
- Experience working with users in military, homeland security, or pharmaceutical highly desirable
Education required:
- B.A./B.S. with a minimum 20 years of experience or M.S. with 15 years of experience or or Ph.D. with 8 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in Engineering, Science or related field, (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Biotechnology, Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science)
