Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- With minimal supervision, assist with compiling and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, preliminary sketches and diagrams, GIS/CAD data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and planning.
- Perform basic professional engineering design work relating to developing engineering drawings, designs, and models from proposed and existing site conditions, resources, general instruction, preliminary sketches, illustrations, diagrams, or schematics in conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction standards.
- Assist with the development of internal engineering design and modeling standards to account for innovative telecommunications network systems, the safety and functionality of end-users, and incorporation of sustainable solutions.
- Works with cross-functional team members to develop and implement high-quality engineering designs that meet the constraints of scope, time, budget, schedule, and client expectations.
- For assigned projects, prepare detailed and accurate designs in accordance with redlines provided by engineers and in alignment with all appropriate telecom design and quality control standards.
- With minimal supervision, applies engineering principles to analyze engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data pertaining to design.
- Assist technical staff and project managers with risk identification and assessment, offering input and analysis with design concepts, construction, mitigation and improvement activities, and remediation projects.
- Maintain site record drawings for all assigned project work.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources and adhere to KLJ’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of GIS software, splicing disciplines, reading and interpreting fiber schematics. Knowledge of CAD software is a plus.
- 5 to 7 years of telecommunications design experience.
- Knowledge of telecommunications design principles, NESC standards, construction practices, process, and the application to permitting, RUS account codes, and project work related issues.
- Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Experience with discipline-specific design software.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
