The Employment Specialist reports to the Director of Career Services at Orleans Technical College and is responsible for preparing students and graduates for the workplace and assisting with placing them in training-related employment through the provision of career coaching, job readiness instruction, job leads and online job postings, and case management support services

Key Responsibilities

  • Meets programmatic benchmarks inclusive of: employer account, job order and placement goals, performance standards, and program deadlines for assigned trades/industries and/or caseload.
  • Meets and communicates with students and graduates, through multiple channels, to prepare them to attain gainful, training-related employment via the provision of job readiness instruction and guidance, relevant resources, and ongoing support.
  • Collaborates effectively with colleagues and external contacts to facilitate job placement of graduates into training-related employment.
  • Prepares all documentation required by the program including forms, spreadsheets, student work plans, case notes, and narrative and statistical reports.
  • Assists clients in the referral process by directing them to employment opportunities and job openings, following up on progress, and reporting outcomes.
  • Provides data and reports to supervisor to ensure efforts are leading to employment standards as defined by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).
  • Invites employers to the semi-annual Program Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings.
  • Performs other job related activities and work as required and/or assigned.

Skills & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, counseling, psychology, applied social sciences, related field or minimum of 1year experience in career services, career counseling/coaching job development, workforce readiness, or other relevant experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including resume and cover letter writing, public speaking, presentation delivery, and email writing.
  • Computer and MS Office proficiency required.
  • Personal vehicle, valid driver’s license and insurance required.
  • Knowledge of labor markets, careers, and job search techniques.
  • Experience working with a database management system preferred.
  • Flexibility in work hours; ability to work evenings.

The base pay for this position ranges from $44,000 to $48,500 and will vary based on factors such as skills and experience. Base pay is one part of the Total Compensation that JEVS Human Services provides to recognize employees for their work.
