Job Description

The Fire Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring fire prevention, safety compliance, and emergency preparedness in the workplace. This role involves conducting safety inspections, developing fire prevention programs, training employees, and implementing safety measures to minimize risks and ensure a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fire Prevention and Safety
    • Develop, implement, and enforce fire safety policies and procedures.
    • Conduct regular fire risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
    • Inspect fire suppression systems, alarms, extinguishers, and emergency exits to ensure functionality.
  • Emergency Preparedness
    • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures.
    • Organize and lead regular fire drills to ensure employee readiness.
    • Coordinate with local fire departments and emergency services for preparedness and support.
  • Training and Awareness
    • Train employees on fire safety protocols, including the use of fire extinguishers and evacuation procedures.
    • Raise awareness about workplace fire hazards and safety practices.
    • Provide guidance on the correct handling of flammable materials and hazardous substances.
  • Incident Investigation and Reporting
    • Respond to fire-related incidents and lead emergency response efforts.
    • Investigate fire incidents to determine causes and recommend preventive actions.
    • Prepare detailed reports on safety incidents and corrective measures.
  • Safety Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with fire safety regulations, codes, and standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA).
    • Conduct audits and inspections to ensure adherence to safety policies.
    • Liaise with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Monitoring
    • Oversee the maintenance and servicing of fire safety equipment.
    • Monitor workplace activities to identify and mitigate safety risks.
    • Ensure proper storage and labeling of flammable and hazardous materials.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Evaluate and improve fire safety measures based on risk assessments and incidents.
    • Stay updated on new fire safety technologies, regulations, and best practices.
    • Recommend enhancements to workplace safety programs and systems.

Key Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Diploma or degree in Fire Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Certifications:
    • Certification in fire safety (e.g., NEBOSH Fire Safety, NFPA Certification, or similar).
    • First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • 2-4 years of experience in fire safety, emergency response, or a similar role.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of fire safety codes, standards, and regulations.
    • Proficiency in emergency response planning and risk assessments.
    • Excellent communication and training skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.

Work Environment

  • Work may involve industrial facilities, construction sites, or office environments.
  • Requires physical activity, including climbing, standing for long periods, and handling equipment.
  • May involve working during emergencies or outside regular hours.

Additional Requirements

  • Familiarity with firefighting techniques and the operation of fire suppression systems.
