Ardent is seeking a 508 Tester to join our team.
This is a remote position.
Position Description:
Ardent is seeking a 508 Tester. The 508 Tester is responsible for evaluating digital content and technology to ensure compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, which requires accessibility for individuals with disabilities. The role involves testing various digital assets, identifying accessibility issues, and providing recommendations for remediation. The 508 Tester collaborates with developers, designers, and content creators to ensure that products are inclusive and accessible to all users.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct thorough accessibility testing on websites, applications, documents, and other digital content to identify potential accessibility barriers.
- Use assistive technologies (screen readers, magnification tools, keyboard navigation, etc.) to simulate the experience of users with disabilities.
- Review and interpret accessibility guidelines, including WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and other relevant standards.
- Collaborate with development and design teams to provide feedback and recommendations for making digital products accessible.
- Document and report accessibility issues, detailing the problems and suggesting potential solutions.
- Create and execute test plans for accessibility testing, covering a wide range of disabilities and use cases.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and advancements in accessibility technologies.
- Participate in training sessions or workshops to educate colleagues about accessibility standards and practices.
- Conduct periodic audits of digital assets to ensure ongoing compliance with accessibility requirements.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Information Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, etc.) or equivalent work experience.
- Strong understanding of web accessibility principles and standards, including WCAG 2.1.
- Experience with assistive technologies and accessibility testing tools.
- Familiarity with disability types and challenges, and the ability to simulate various user experiences.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate accessibility issues.
- Knowledge of programming languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their impact on accessibility is a plus.
- Relevant certifications in accessibility testing or web development are advantageous.
