Description Of Duties/Essential Functions

Provide technical and project management assistance in the administration and supervision of design and construction for Infrastructure Capital Improvement Projects, such as street and drainage, waterline and sanitary sewer improvements. Assist with preparation and review of design/construction contracts, plans, specifications, technical reports, invoices and pay estimates, supplemental agreements or appropriations, change orders, request for information and request for council action. Attend and participate with design/construction progress meetings and on-site field observations/inspections. Assist with coordination and management of design consultants and construction contractors. Investigate and respond to inquiries by other City of Houston departments, consultants, agencies, contractors and the general public.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.

This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier 2 Level.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers as of satisfactory standing, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.

Experience Requirements

No experience is required.

License Requirements

Possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.

Must obtain a Professional Engineer license from the State of Texas within seven years from hire date as an Engineer-In-Training with the City of Houston.

• Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
