POSITION/TITLE: Controller

SALARY: Salary Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Finance/Administration

REPORTS TO: VP of Finance

General Responsibilities

Responsible for the daily, monthly, and annual accounting duties for the Custer family of companies. Including banking company inventories, supervision of accounting staff.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

DAILY/WEEKLY

  • Manage the accuracy and productivity of the day-to day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, inventory integrity, fixed assets, general ledger, and internal entity billing.
  • Oversee preparation of Daily Activity Report and bank reconciliation process.
  • Maintain daily cash balance and manage line of credit.
  • Prepare “Ad Hoc” financial analyses for Team Leaders
  • Handle daily accounting questions and issues.
  • Continuous review and improvement of accounting procedures.
  • Identify, develop, and monitor KPIs.
  • Supervise accounting staff.

MONTHLY/QUARTERLY

  • Supervise month end closing process.
  • Prepare bank reporting relative to borrowing base and debt covenants.
  • Prepare month end company and consolidated reporting by month end deadlines.
  • Meet with departmental leaders and be a strategic business partner that provides insights and value.
  • Manage fixed asset records.
  • Manage Sales tax strategy and filings.
  • Manage intercompany analysis and eliminations.
  • Lead Dashboard creation and provide insights for the Canyon entities.

ANNUAL

  • Supervise and coordinate year end close process and annual review with external accounting firm.
  • Ensure work papers are accurate and delivered timely.
  • Prepare tax analysis detail for tax preparers.
  • Oversee preparation of annual property tax filings
  • Submit annual financial reports for benchmarking.
  • Manage operational and capital budgeting process and submission.

Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP and tax principles, financial reporting standards and relevant regulation.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Keen attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy in reporting.
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • General tax knowledge, sales tax knowledge plus
  • Team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail with well-developed organizational and communication skills
  • Proficiency at Microsoft Excel, including ability to work with Pivot Tables and complex formulas.
  • Experience within the furniture industry using Hedberg software is a plus.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Minimum of 8+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience
