Responsibilities
I. Job Relationships:
Provides leadership and direction to the following staff by job category:
- CWC Unit Secretaries/Administrative Assistant
- Inpatient Nursing Educator and Nurse Manager whose RN?s are involved in the care of bariatric patients
- Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer (MBSCR)
Collaborates With
- CWC physicians and Bariatric Surgeons
- Members of the interdisciplinary team (Insurance Coordinator Nutrition etc.)
- Operational leadership of the Medical Office Building (clinic location)
- Operational leadership of the Operating Room
- Administrative Director of Surgery and VP of Operations
Serves In a Consultative Role To The Following
- Laboratory Personnel
- Pharmacy Personnel
- House Officers
- Transporters
- Unit Secretaries
- Care Managers
- Social Services Personnel
- Pastoral Care Personnel
II. Authority
- Has the authority responsibility and resources to ensure the program is in compliance with all internal and external quality and accreditation standards.
- Is fully integrated into the organizational framework of the CWC and Medical Center.
III. Responsibilities
- Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients customers
and patients.
- Serves as primary interface for the CWC with all nursing staff for all program development and communication.
- Ensures appropriate education is maintained for staff throughout the hospital to maximize positive patient outcomes and minimize adverse events.
- Stays informed of accrediting agency standards and serves as the conduit to ensure the facility meets those standards. Works with VP and other senior leaders to achieve those standards.
- Oversees maintenance of patient data in program database for tracking progress and reporting to accrediting agencies.
- Works closely with the MBSCR to ensure timely submission of outcomes data.
- Ensures that the program is providing excellent quality care and implements quality improvement plans to promote continuous improvement.
- Practices and promotes nursing care within professional standards.
- Takes responsibility for own learning. Will attend annual conference related to bariatric surgery and/or obesity.
- Works with the CWC team to ensure multi-disciplinary care of the patients (Nutrition Radiology Medicine etc.)
- Attends regular CWC meetings to communicate and lead team progress on program initiatives.
- Works collaboratively with the MOB Operational Leadership (outpatient clinic location) OR Leadership and VP to ensure:
- Effective operations of CWC clinics
- Excellent outpatient care for CWC patients
- Adequate staffing and coverage of CWC functions
- Addressing of patient complaints
- Appropriate space facilities & equipment for CWC clinics
- Excellent operative care of the Bariatric surgery patient
- Appropriate facilities & equipment for Bariatric surgery
- Demonstrates effective leadership skills.
- Supports and collaborates in the Medical Center Performance Improvement plan through quality improvement/quality control activities.
- Complies with patient safety goals as set forth by the Medical Center.
- Utilizes current research in area of clinical practice.
