Little Leaf Farms LLC, located in Devens, MA, USA is looking for an outstanding and committed Grower to join the Growing Team at our 10-acre greenhouse in Devens, MA.
Job Description: In this challenging but rewarding position, you will report directly to the Head Grower of the Devens greenhouse and work closely with our diverse team of highly skilled growers. Work is self-guided, analytical and hands-on, involving learning and using state-of-the-art greenhouse technology to grow high-yielding, high quality lettuce for the Northeastern market. This position requires a can-do attitude, leadership capabilities, passion for learning, strong work ethic, sense of accountability, and desire to be an integral part of a small, close-knit team.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Complete a Grower training course to develop the skills to help manage one of the most advanced CEA lettuce greenhouses in the world, and put Little Leaf Farms’ unique growing strategy into practice
- Serve in an on-call capacity at least one week per month once sufficiently trained
- Provide support to the Head Grower in production and grower alignment meetings and in training Assistant Growers in Little Leaf Farms’ growing strategy and greenhouse tasks
- Utilize greenhouse data and scientific knowledge to provide analytical support to the Growing team when making crucial decisions and troubleshooting
- Monitor and track greenhouse settings including temperature, humidity, and water chemistry and contribute insights to Grower conversations
- Conduct daily inspections of greenhouse lines and crop for mechanical, physiological and/or climate issues and develop a deep and thorough understanding of the greenhouse/crop
- Complete manual labor growing tasks such as mixing custom fertilizer recipes and assisting with foliar sprays
- Assist in monitoring pest populations within the greenhouse
Requirements
Qualifications and Competencies
- 3 years minimum work experience, including the following:
- Use of Ridder, Hoogendorn, Priva, or Argus climate computers
- Hydroponic crop production in a CEA operation; leafy greens production strongly preferred but not required
- High School Diploma/GED required; Bachelor’s degree in horticulture or plant sciences related field strongly preferred
- Basic to advanced botany, physics, chemistry, data analysis, plant physiology knowledge, and strong analytical skills; proficiency in use of Microsoft software
- Willingness to do a wide range of manual labor tasks and ability to lift at least 55 lbs.
- Must demonstrate strong attention to detail, ability to learn quickly, adaptability, organizational skills, and ability to utilize a big-picture, systems-thinking approach to solving problems
- Good communication skills, stress management, and sense of accountability
- Experience serving in a leadership capacity and understanding of how to communicate your knowledge and teach new skills to a variety of learning styles
- Must be a responsible and reliable team player with a positive attitude, high level of maturity, and strong work ethic
