Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in gerontology, sociology, recreation, business administration; and
Four (4) years of program management experience; and
To include two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Additional Requirements
Senior services grant-funded program management experience preferred.
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a valid City Operator’s Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of an appropriate valid C.P.R. Certificate within six (6) months from date of hire.
Preferred Knowledge
- Operations, services and activities of a senior citizen services program
- Operations, services and activities of a senior citizen services program, volunteer program
- Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
- Principles and practices of food preparation and meal distribution
- Modern and complex principles and practices of senior citizen program development, administration and service implementation
- Modern and complex principles and practices of senior citizen volunteer program development, administration and service implementation
- Methods and techniques used to develop various programs for frail elderly citizens
- Methods and techniques used to develop volunteer programs for frail elderly citizens
- Theories of gerontology and their application to senior citizens
- Modern and complex principles and practices of contract compliance
- Principles and procedures of recruiting, training and monitoring the work of volunteer staff
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations
Preferred Skills & Abilities
- Supervise, organize, and review the work of lower level staff
- Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff
- Plan, develop and monitor programs designed for frail elderly citizens
- Plan, develop and monitor programs designed for senior retired volunteers
- Identify and respond to sensitive community and organizational issues, concerns and needs
- Conduct various presentation and workshops on frail elderly issues
- Conduct various presentation and workshops on volunteerism
- Ensure contract compliance
- Develop and administer section goals, objectives and procedures
- Interpret and explain City policies and procedures
- Research, analyze and evaluate new service delivery methods and techniques
- Prepare clear and concise reports
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including City officials and the general public
