Title: Billing Specialist

Location: USA/Remote

Reports to: Sr. RCM Manager

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Full-Time or Part-Time: Full-Time

Salary Range: $20 – $26 hourly

Position Overview

The Billing Specialist is responsible for the oversight of standard billing processes within the Revenue Cycle. Key functions include monitoring the timely receipt of supporting billing documents (charges and payments), processing functions within standard guidelines, and addressing any outliers or errors in a timely manner. The Billing Specialist also participates in process improvements, rule creation, and provides direction to the Operations teams. The role requires alerting appropriate resources of significant outliers or issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor charge log daily to ensure timely receipt of charges from clients and processing by the Operations team.
  • Submit claims via portals with supporting documentation.
  • Ensure accurate claim submission via EMR and crosscheck reporting.
  • Complete client-specific charge processing tasks such as importing review processes and handling EMR corrections.
  • Resolve exceptions daily, internally or with clients, within standard timelines.
  • Confirm processes are completed for month-end and participate in quality reviews, including standard and ad hoc auditing of charges.
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of charge rules.
  • Experience with AZ, GA Medicaid highly preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient in communication, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize assignments.
  • Proficient in intermediate math and Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Prior experience with medical billing software.

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
  • 4+ years of experience in healthcare, specifically in behavioral health.
  • Medical Billing (and/or Coding) Certificate is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with AZ, GA Medicaid highly preferred.
  • Nextgen experience highly preferred.
