Position Summary

Carpenter’s Place is a faith based nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide the tools necessary for rebuilding the lives of the homeless and families at risk. In the role of Homeless Dayroom Specialist, you will address the urgent needs of the adult homeless population by fostering a warm and inviting atmosphere for our guests, ensuring that the dayroom is accessible and ready to support them.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and check in adult homeless guests to the dayroom.
  • Monitor dayroom activities and respond to Guest needs.
  • Manage Guest use of shower and bathroom facilities.
  • Schedule Guests for Case Management Services and ensure they are up to date with case management.
  • Provide meal tickets to guests and track meal attendance.
  • Coordinate Guest check-in for the mail and phone messages.
  • Manage Guest behavior and conflicts to promote a peaceful environment.
  • Communicate and enforce dayroom rules and program policies.
  • Provide belongings such as socks, undergarments, and other clothing and necessities to Guests.
  • All other duties as may be relevant to the role.

Qualifications Educational Level

  • Associate’s degree in human services, social & behavioral sciences, psychology, or related field. HS Diploma or GED with equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a college degree.

Experience Requirement

  • 2 years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health, substance use, domestic violence, human trafficking, and/or physical disabilities.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to de-escalate Guest conflict through active listening, demonstrating empathy, and using non-confrontational communication.
  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to set professional boundaries with clients and enforce dayroom rules and program policies.
  • Ability to demonstrate a trauma informed and culturally humble response to Guests circumstances.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Paying from $16.50 – $18.50 per hour
  • The position is full-time offering 40 hours of work per week. The position is eligible for Overtime.

Computer Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel. Ability to learn Mission Tracker and/or other required software.
