Job Description
Applications are invited for the position of Claims Officer II – Subrogation, Grade 2, in the Claims Department at Sagicor General Insurance Trinidad & Tobago Limited. The successful candidate will be based at the Port of Spain Branch.
Job Summary
Under general supervision and direction, manages and reduces outstanding recoveries and payables by negotiating settlements with third parties and presenting evidence in legal proceedings.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Receives and reviews settled claim files to determine negligent parties, recovery potential and quantum of claim; requests additional information including investigation report to support successful recovery
- Communicates, corresponds, liaises and visits third-party insurers to achieve recovery target in line with monthly and annual budget
- Handles liability disputes with third-party insurers and sends demands for payment; considers and discusses appropriate legal action against nonresponsive third parties
- Examines and verifies incoming third-party claim, identifies and prevents fraudulent claims from being approved
- Forwards to VP, weekly visit schedule and action plan and prepares monthly recovery reports showing amounts owed, recovered and paid
- Manages and maintains excellent relationship with third-party insurers and external attorneys
- Reimburses insured for uninsured losses (deductibles, loss of use, etc.) upon receipt of recoveries
- Prepares Subrogation Report showing monies recovered, paid, owed and owing by third-party insurer.
- Ensures no identified recovery file becomes statute-barred due to inactions
- Performs any other related duties and handles special projects as may be requested by management.
Education/Experience
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED
- Five C.X.C subjects/passes including English Language and Mathematics.
- At least seven (7) years experience in motor and non-motor claims.
- Completion of the Dip CII, AIC or similar programme will be considered an asset.
- Good command of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent customer service orientation.
- Strong negotiation skills.
