Join the forest products team at DPI’s Salisbury Research Facility, where you will contribute to research activities that encourage the use of sustainable, environmentally friendly timber-based construction and architectural products. The facility houses a comprehensive suite of specialised equipment including saw-milling, veneer processing lines and engineered wood products manufacturing and performance testing equipment.

The Opportunity

As our Research Assistant (Wood Processing), you would be a motivated person with relevant experience in operating and maintaining specialised equipment items such as sawmilling and veneer processing lines, engineered wood products. You would also contribute to the maintenance and upkeep of the broader facility.

Your Duties Would Include

  • Operate and maintain timber processing and general site plant and machinery.
  • Provide operational support to project leaders and researchers on a variety of research projects in line with departmental and client priorities.
  • Assist the Research Facility Manager in the maintenance of wood processing equipment and facilities at the Salisbury Research Facility.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and ground maintenance services.
  • Assist with the collection of research data and provide this information to the responsible researcher or the Facility Manager.
  • Purchase and maintain stores and consumables required for research activities.

What Are We Looking For

There are some things we see as essential. You must possess a:

  • A current C class driver’s licence.
  • Forklift ticket or ability to acquire.

You might also have experience with timber processing, wood machining or similar, and general site plant and machinery safe operation and maintenance.
