General Description
The purpose of this job is to provide a variety of specialized administrative and office support to the assigned department or office.
This job works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Responsibilites
Responsible for greeting and assisting members of Law Enforcement, other government agencies and the public when they enter the Animal Service Office and by phone. This position will have you working very closely with dogs and cats of all types in a small area for administering rabies vaccines. Understanding animal behavior is crucial. Ability to follow OSHA standards for a safe and clean establishment, and usage of sharps. Must be able to retain animal laws to educate the public and to understand the Scope of Service of the Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Division. Accurately and efficiently enter data from various sources into record management systems. Collecting money and balancing reports. Assist members of the Public with Animal Enforcement related questions and issuance of Domestic Animal Trap permits. Ability to assist citizens with locating animal related information and literature from the Animal Services Office. Perform any other duties assigned by the Animal Services Supervisor. Work as a cohesive team member to accomplish goals and objectives of the Animal Service Division.

- Must be able to follow directives, learn policies and procedures as well as act independently, using sound judgement in both normal and emergency situations
- Ability to multi task in a hectic environment
- Ability to obtain a working knowledge of federal, state and local laws regarding Animal Services and records
- Perform excellent customer service to diverse cliental
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with members of Animal Services and the Sheriff’s Office
- Skills in verbal and written communication
- Maintain and proper use of office all office equipment
Requirements
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must possess or be able to possess a North Carolina Drivers license
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor
- Must be a citizen of the United States
Special Requirement
All applicants must be able to lift 40 lbs. You must be able to stand, and/or sit for long periods of time. Have the ability to stoop, kneel and crouch. Must become a Certified Rabies Vaccinator (CRV) within 1 year.
Physical Demands
Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 40 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
