Job Description

  • Research & Development:
    • Conduct in-depth research on agricultural residues (e.g., bagasse, straw), wood-based fibers, bioplastics, and paper substrates, including their chemical composition and material properties.
    • Develop a benchmark mechanism to differentiate substrates based on key properties (e.g., tensile strength, biodegradability, hydrophobicity, surface characteristics).
    • Explore and evaluate current technologies and scalability factors for producing bio-based substrates.
    • Lead studies on fiber properties, including length, strength, and bonding characteristics, and apply findings to improve substrate quality.
    • Study pulping processes (chemical, mechanical, and semi-chemical) and their impact on fiber properties for various applications.
  • Innovation and Process Development:
    • Apply a nature-inspired approach to material innovation, exploring bio-based coatings, additives, and novel processing techniques.
    • Develop formulations and processes to impart desired characteristics (e.g., hydrophobicity, strength) to bio-based substrates, especially bagasse and other agricultural residues.
    • Drive the application of advanced material science principles, such as nanocellulose, for enhancing substrate performance.
  • Scalability and Manufacturing:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop scalable processes for bio-based material production.
    • Plan and execute trials and experiments to optimize processing parameters for improved yield, strength, and sustainability.
    • Collaborate with partners and vendors to scale up processes, ensuring high product quality and achieving better yields at industrial scales.
  • Testing & Analysis:
    • Lead testing and evaluation of raw materials, intermediate products, and final substrates, using standardized procedures (e.g., tensile strength, tear resistance, water absorption).
    • Analyze test data to derive actionable insights and drive continuous product improvement.
    • Conduct compostability and biodegradability testing in alignment with industry standards.
  • Product Specification & Validation:
    • Develop product specifications based on scientific rationale, aligning substrate properties with desired end-product performance.
    • Execute incremental trial modifications and finalize product specifications for new bio-based materials.
    • Lead the validation of new products, ensuring they meet required performance and environmental standards.
  • Collaboration & Reporting:
    • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior scientists and engineers.
    • Communicate research findings, progress, and product development results to stakeholders and management through technical reports and presentations.
    • Stay current with the latest research, industry trends, and regulatory requirements related to bio-based materials and sustainability.
  • Stage-Gate Process & MVP Development:
    • Guide projects through the stage-gate development process, from concept ideation to prototype and product trials.
    • Work closely with the product and process teams to finalize Minimum Viable Products (MVP) for scale-up and commercializatio
