About The Role
The COS Development team is responsible for securing financial and other resources from public agencies, private foundations, corporations, and individual donors that enable COS to advance our mission. The Development Specialist is an integral member of our team, playing a key role in COS’s ability to successfully engage each type of supporter. Over time, a successful Development Specialist will take on increasing levels of responsibility and ownership of team processes.

What You’ll Do
- The Development Specialist will support team priorities across the key areas of:

- Individual donor and prospect management and administration
- Proposal development and grant management
- This role works directly with both the Director of Development and the Senior Development Manager.
- This role also works closely with the COS Marketing and Communications team on campaigns and social media initiatives.
Required Skills
- Proven organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, continually prioritize, and maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated capability to work both independently and as a part of a team, to take initiative, and meet deadlines within strict time constraints.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Strong project management skills.
- Familiarity with Salesforce or a similar Customer Relationship Management platform preferred.
Experience And Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 1 – 3 years experience working in fundraising and/or project management (nonprofit experience preferred).
- Experience in scientific research, science communications, and/or open science is an asset but not a requirement for this role.
Pay range: $50,000 – $55,000
Other Information
This is a fully remote position with a requirement to attend approximately two multi-day in-person meetings per year.
COS supports flexibility in work scheduling. The Development Team primarily operates on a 9am – 5pm Eastern Time (ET) schedule with COS’s core hours being 11am – 4pm ET. Modifications for different time zones will be considered for team collaboration.
