Summary Of Function

Develop and implement out-of-school programs for students 6th through 12th grade. Act as liaison between student-school-parents. Communicate with all parties to coordinate services to reach goals of Camas. Two positions; one that coordinates grades 6-8, and one that coordinates grades 9-12.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Understands, upholds, and utilizes policies/procedures of the program.
  • Manage out-of-school programs in the Camas Learning Center.
  • Assist students with homework or classwork assignments.
  • Work through scheduled programs with the students.
  • Provide rides to and from the Learning Center and home.
  • Provide positive social interaction for students in the center.
  • Schedule weekly and monthly incentive outings.
  • During the summer months will oversee the Recreational Leadership Program.
  • Supervise evening and weekend activities as required.
  • Create strategies to improve students’ academic performance.
  • Monitor Learning Center computer use and updates.
  • Maintains daily contact with teachers and Learning Center staff.
  • Communicate with Supervisor, staff, and school regarding Center concerns.
  • Must be willing to gain certification and participate in outdoor activities such as but not limited to rock climbing, rafting, water safety, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no employee supervisory responsibilities.

Education

  • High School Diploma, Some College Education preferred.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and other computer software.
  • Proficient understanding of Middle and high school level math, English, and science.
  • Ability to work and communicate with students in grades 6 through 12.
  • Ability to work within a team successfully.
  • Be committed and dependable.
  • A community member with strong Kalispel cultural ties is preferred.
  • Understanding of and respect for working in Native communities.

Other Requirements

  • Maintain Confidentiality.
  • WA State background check through Cusick schools.
  • Food handler’s permit.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificates
  • Driver’s License and insurability under the Tribal vehicle/equipment insurance plan.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

Physical Demands

  • This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Significant portions of the job require extended sedentary periods; constant work with computers, including extended periods of keyboarding; and repetitive motion of hands and wrists.
  • This position requires significant amounts of standing or walking.
  • This position requires significant local travel.
  • This position requires the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Outdoor activities with hiking, camping, water sports, etc.
  • This position requires significant amounts of work to be performed outside general business hours. Significant evening meetings, weekend work, shift work, on-call status, may be required.
