Job Description
Performs general nursing care to patients in a manner that considers safety, comfort, and the therapeutic environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN).
Qualifications
Education/Training High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Licensure/Certification Maintains Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Must obtain and maintain current Handle with Care (HWC) Certification within 90 days of hire.
Experience 180 days (6 months) experience as Mental Health Technician, Psychology Technician, Psychiatric Technician, Behavioral Health Technician, Registered Behavioral Health Technician, Behavioral Health Specialist, Direct Support Personnel, Group Home Assistant/Paraprofessional, Correctional Officers, EMT’s, Paramedics, Medical Assistants, Patient Care Technicians, Home Health Aides, Patient Care Assistants, Certified Medical Assistants, Nursing Assistant and Crisis Intervention Specialist.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Documents observations on assigned patients in legible, accurate and appropriate format following hospital and unit procedures.
- Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the RN and other members of the healthcare team.
- Assists with nursing education groups.
- Completes assignments of AM/PM care, vital signs, phlebotomy, total milieu supervision of patient care: assist members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines; assist with admissions and discharges as assigned.
- Demonstrates competency in unit specific tasks and skill as defined by unit specific competency list.
- Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
- May have limited access to areas storing medications.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health and Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Baptist Health and Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Participates in nursing Performance Improvement (PI) activities as assigned.
- Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Practices efficient use of supplies.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and organized unit.
- Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls and guest requests.
- Transports and delivers items and equipment throughout the facility.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s
