Automotive Buyer Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced Reconditioned and Salvage Vehicle (Car) Buyer to join our Purchasing Team. The position will be responsible for purchasing vehicles at various rebuilder shops and trade networks.

Compensation

  • Starting at $95,000 annually with bonuses
  • Monthly Quality and Quantity Bonuses
  • Developing area and volume, compensation potential increases with increasing volume

Schedule

  • Full-Time
  • Monday to Friday, occasional weekends toward the end of the month

Vehicle Buyer Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Purchasing Cars
    • Monitors used car market for trends in vehicle values
    • Maintains ongoing customer relations with Suppliers and Supply Chain Personnel
    • Meet with Suppliers and buy cars that meet AutoSavvy standards
    • Reporting and record keeping of key information
    • Work with the area inspector to maintain the highest standards of quality
  • Relationship Management
    • Sources, establishes, and maintains relationships with salvage title, vehicle rebuilders/suppliers, auctions, and various sources for the purpose of purchasing vehicles that meet AutoSavvy requirements
    • Direct shop visits
    • Engaging suppliers in professional manner
    • Demonstrate financial benefits of AutoSavvy partnership
    • Resolving concerns with suppliers
    • Recording all daily activities using a CRM
  • You are expected to maintain supplier relations by whatever means possible (call, text, email, web meeting, etc.) and ensure their local contact is appraising their vehicles
  • Minimal overnight travel may occur, not to exceed 25%
  • Additional duties as assigned.

To be successful in this role you should have held similar titles:

  • Appraisal Manager / Used Car Trade In Manager
  • Insurance Estimator
  • Service Advisor

Requirements And Knowledge Needed

  • Prior automotive industry experience required with 5+ years of previous buying experience either as a buyer or a used car manager
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to identify proper body repairs
  • Comfortable with technology-based platforms, V-Auto specifically
  • An excellent negotiator with the ability to spot opportunities and the good sense to act on them
  • An excellent communicator with a great ability to build rapport and attract builders and other suppliers
  • Must be polite, professional, energetic, and presentable, with strong organization, and customer service skills
  • Thirst for career development and continuous learning
  • Valid drivers license, a clean driving record, and the ability to pass a drug test and a background check
  • Ability to work in all elements of weather
