Job Description
The light vehicle mechanic safely specializes in inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles, such as light/med duty trucks, buses, manlifts, & forklifts. Below is a general scope of work for a light vehicle mechanic.

Position Responsibilities
Inspection and Diagnosis
- Perform routine inspections of vehicles to assess overall condition.
- Use diagnostic tools and software to identify mechanical, electrical, or electronic issues.
- Test vehicle systems, including engines, brakes, suspension, and transmission, to pinpoint malfunctions.
Repairs and Maintenance
- Engine Work: Replace or repair components like timing belts, spark plugs, gaskets, and oil seals.
- Brake Systems: Inspect, repair, or replace brake pads, discs, calipers, fluid systems, and air brake systems
- Suspension and Steering: Repair or replace shock absorbers, struts, ball joints, and control arms.
- Transmission and Drivetrain: Diagnose and repair issues with manual or automatic transmissions, drive shafts, and differentials.
- Electrical Systems: Replace or repair batteries, alternators, starter motors, and other electrical components.
- Cooling Systems: Diagnose and repair radiators, thermostats, and water pumps.
- Fuel Systems: Inspect and replace fuel pumps, injectors, and filters.
Preventive Maintenance
- Perform scheduled oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication tasks.
- Conduct tire rotations, replacements, and alignments.
- Check and top off fluid levels, including coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and windshield washer fluid.
Testing and Quality Assurance
- Test drive vehicles to confirm the resolution of identified issues.
- Use specialized equipment to measure emissions and ensure compliance with local regulations.
- Perform safety checks on key systems (e.g., brakes, lights, airbags).
Interaction
- Discuss vehicle issues with customers and explain the work required or completed.
- Offer advice on preventive maintenance schedules to prolong vehicle lifespan.
Workshop Responsibilities
- Ensure the workshop is clean, organized, and safe.
- Keep tools and diagnostic equipment in good working condition.
- Stay updated on advancements in automotive technology and repair techniques.
Position Requirements
- 5 years working on light and medium duty vehicles preferably in a fleet environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Time will be spent in a mine setting which includes indoor and outdoor work as required in all weather conditions. Adhere to all Pinto Valley safety protocols and policies
