The Saanich Peninsula Hospital (SPH) is excited to offer exceptional opportunities for two community-based General Surgeons (2 x 1.0 FTEs). The successful candidates will develop a broadly based general surgery practice and work together to provide daytime coverage at Saanich Peninsula Hospital.
Each 1.0 FTE position includes five OR slates per month, along with one endoscopy slate per week with potential for an additional screening endoscopy slate per week. You’ll have the opportunity to join existing office space in the community, and SPH will provide an additional 1-2 days of clinic time within the outpatient hospital setting.
The successful candidates will integrate into the Victoria Division of General Surgery and join 16 General Surgeons with subspecialties in surgical oncology, HPB, pediatric general surgery, colorectal, breast, bariatric, trauma, and ACS. Additional OR time will be made available at Victoria General Hospital (VGH) and/or Royal Jubilee Hospital (RJH) and the successful candidates will have regular access to additional endoscopy time at VGH and RJH as well.
General surgery call at VGH and RJH is provided by separate ACS services at each site. The successful candidates will participate equitably in the ACS call schedules at VGH and RJH. The ACS services are supported by General Surgery residents, PGY1 interns, medical students, and ward based Associate Physicians. VGH has a separately staffed Trauma Service.
VGH and RJH are 375 and 500 bed tertiary hospitals and provide consultative services to a population of almost one million people throughout Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands central coastal BC. All surgical subspecialties are represented.
SPH is a 65-bed acute care community hospital with an 18-bed emergency department (ED) that cares for 35,000 patients/year, both pediatric and adult. SPH is the primary referral hospital for the Southern Gulf Islands such that the total population served is approximately 87,000. The ER is currently closed overnight. Palliative Care and Anesthesiology are available within the hospital during daytime hours, with numerous other Specialists in the community. Tertiary care support and consultants are 30 minutes away by road at Victoria General Hospital and Royal Jubilee Hospital. Medical Imaging, including a CT scanner, operates 07:30 – 24:00 daily plus on call overnight. Emergency Physicians are on site 24 hours.
The successful candidates will hold FRCPC in Surgery and be eligible for full licensure with CPSBC.
