About You

As a valuable member of our Finance team, the Junior Accountant will focus on supporting accounts payable processes, managing corporate cards, and overseeing expense reporting. This role also involves preparing related journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and capital assets. The Junior Accountant will play a crucial part in maintaining accurate and timely financial records while upholding company policies and legal requirements.

We’re looking for a detail-oriented, organized individual with a passion for continuous learning and improvement. The ideal candidate has a combination of practical experience and relevant education or training in accounting and thrives in a collaborative, achievement-focused environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Accounts Payable Management: Process and verify vendor invoices, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
  • Corporate Card & Expense Reporting: Manage the company’s corporate credit cards and employee expense reports, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Journal Entries: Prepare monthly and year-end journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and capital asset entries.
  • Financial Documentation: Assist with the preparation of supporting documentation for financial audits and reporting.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to ensure that expenses are appropriately captured and classified, and provide support as needed for financial inquiries.
  • Reconciliation: Assist in the reconciliation of accounts related to payables, expenses, and capital assets to ensure accuracy.
  • Reporting: Assist in the preparation of regular financial reports related to accounts payable, expenses, and accruals.
  • Process Improvement: Suggest and implement improvements to processes that enhance efficiency and accuracy in managing accounts payable and expense reporting.

Requirements:

  • Relevant Experience: At least 3 years of practical experience with accounts payable, expense reporting, and journal entries. Relevant coursework, training, or education in accounting or finance is an asset.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Knowledge of basic accounting principles (GAAP), including journal entries, accruals, and prepaids.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Suite, with advanced skills in Excel or spreadsheets.
    • Familiarity with accounting software such as NetSuite, Xero, or other AP, approval or corporate credit card systems is an asset.
  • Attention to Detail: Consistently produces high-quality work, notices details others might miss, and investigates discrepancies with curiosity.
  • Customer Service Focus: Demonstrates professionalism and responsiveness in all interactions with vendors, employees, and other stakeholders. Handles inquiries with a solution-oriented approach and maintains positive relationships while upholding company policies.
