Overview
The Vice President of Development will be responsible for establishing and optimizing a development pipeline for renewable energy projects, primarily focusing on utility-scale and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) solar and energy storage. This role oversees the entire project development lifecycle, ensuring alignment with the company’s growth goals and maintain a reputation for excellence in the industry. The VP will lead the development function, manage partnerships, and ensure compliance with regulations while fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish a sustainable strategy for growth through greenfield an acquisition development of solar and energy storage projects.
- Ensure the entire development lifecycle of renewable energy projects, including site selection, land acquisition, permitting, and interconnection.
- Establish and maintain internal and external relationships with key stakeholders.
- Prepare and manage budgets and financial forecasts, ensuring adherence to internal best practices on expenditure management.
- Identify, create and implement standards of process to ensure accuracy and completeness of data.
- Ensure all projects comply with local and federal regulations and standards.
- Lead and mentor a team of development professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, trust and accountability.
- Conduct market research to identify trends, opportunities and competitive landscape in the renewable energy sector.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Environmental Science, Business Administration or related field.
- A master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in renewable energy project development, focusing on solar and energy storage.
- Proven track record of developing projects from early stage to NTP, with some projects financed or reached COD.
- Strong project management process and task tracking skills, able to manage work across multiple distinct projects.
- In-depth knowledge of Puerto Rico regulatory requirements and industry standards in the renewable sector.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively.
- Bilingual (Spanish & English)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make strategic decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in financial modeling, financing and investment strategies.
- Proven ability to lead imaginative and innovative solutions under deadlines.
Location:
- This is an in-office role at our office in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
