Job Description
The Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information (DCPI) serves as the primary liaison between the NYPD, the media, and the general public. Its mission is to provide timely and accurate information to news outlets for widespread distribution. DCPI also arranges press conference immediately after high-profile incidents have occurred to disseminate information as it comes in. DCPI is also responsible for creating and distributing the NYPD’s in-house magazine Spring 3100.
DCPI is looking to hire a web developer whom will have the following duties:
- Layout and graphic design for Spring 3100 Magazine;
- Collaborate with design and editorial teams;
- Implement website layouts, content updates and new features.
WORK LOCATION: 1PP, ROOM 1320, CMD 524
WORK SCHEDULE: Mon-Fri, 0900 x 1700 hours

Minimum Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree, with a major in fine or graphic arts, from an accredited college and one year of full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist; or
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus two years of training in a technical school approved by a state’s Department of Education or comparable governmental agency, in oils, water colors, painting, design, black and white, layout, computer graphics, and other art media, and three years of acceptable full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist.
To be qualified for assignment to Assignment Level II, individuals must have:
- at least one year of experience as a Graphic Artist, Assignment Level I; or
- the Qualification Requirements described in “1” or “2” above, plus two additional years of acceptable specialized paid experience conceptualizing and initiating graphic art projects.
Preferred Skills
Applicant must have a solid knowledge of graphic design and magazine layout. Job duties entail layout and graphic design for Spring 3100 Magazine. Applicant should have a good understanding of the Adobe Creative Cloud and in particular, Adobe InDesign. Applicants should be able to provide a work portfolio upon request.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
