Job Summary

The Landscape Designer will be an integral member of our nontraditional, collaborative Landscape Design team to create, develop, and execute designs for truly distinctive outdoor spaces per client request. The Landscape Designer is a creative professional who plans and designs outdoor spaces, including gardens, parks, and residential yards, by selecting appropriate plants, hardscape materials, and features to create aesthetically pleasing and functional environments while considering site conditions, client needs, and environment factors.

Requirements

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Site Analysis: Conduct on-site assessments to evaluate existing conditions like soil type, drainage, sunlight exposure, and topography.
  • Design Development: Create detailed landscape plans using computer aided design software, including plant layouts, hardscape elements (patios, walkways), and grading changes. Conceptual design through team Charette and AutoCAD plans based on conceptual design.
  • Plant Selection: Choose appropriate plant species based on climate, maintenance requirements, visual appeal, and environmental considerations.
  • Presentation & proposal: Present graphic design plans and proposals to clients, addressing any concerns and obtaining approval.
  • Material Selection: Select suitable hardscape materials like pavers, stone, and edging to complement the design.
  • Sustainability practices: Incorporate environmentally conscious design elements like water conservation strategies and native plant selection.
  • Compliance with regulations: Adhere to local zoning codes and permitting requirements.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Confidence in hand and computer-generated graphics
  • Proficient in AutoCAD/2D drafting and 3D modeling software (Sketchup), Adobe Suite
  • Knowledge of Planting Specification & Design, Standard Construction Details & Industry means/methods, preferred
  • Must be willing to engage in client communications and interaction
  • Eager to learn and develop new skills, including budgeting and estimation
  • Desire to work as part of a dynamic team and develop personal and team goals
  • Creative problem-solving skills and critical thinking

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in landscape architecture, architecture, or design field
  • 1-2 years’ experience in Landscape Architecture or design firm, preferred
  • Landscape Architecture license not required (plus)

Physical Requirements

Frequent sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Frequently operates a computer and other office machinery

Frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs, squatting on uneven terrain

Must be able to occasionally move up to 15 pounds

Frequent work outdoors and subject to extreme heat/cold and other weather elements.
