Job Description

  • Samaritan Health Plans (SHP) provides health insurance options to Samaritan employees, community employers, and Medicare and Medicaid members. SHP operates a portfolio of health plan products under several different legal structures: InterCommunityHealth Plans, Inc. (IHN) is designated as a regional Coordinated Care Organization (CCO) for Medicaid beneficiaries; Samaritan Health Plans, Inc. offers Medicare Advantage, Commercial Large Group, and Commercial Large Group PPO and EPO plans; SHP is also the third-party administrator for Samaritan Health Services’ self-funded employee health benefit plan.

As part of an Integrated Delivery System, Samaritan Health Plans is strategically and operationally aligned with Samaritan Health Services’ mission of Building Healthier Communities Together.

  • JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
  • Serves as the members advocate with internal stakeholders within SHP to resolve inquiries, questions, and concerns to improve internal processes and outcomes and achieve successful implementation of action plans to enhance member experience and retention. Leads and has oversight for Member Language & Materials. Oversees, negotiates, and monitors contracts and vendors for related services. Drives an evolution of the member advocacy function, embedding a data and insights-driven approach to enhance the impact and shape the environment in which SHP operates to serve members.
  • EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Three (3) years experience in healthcare or health insurance required.
  • Three (3) years experience providing case management or member advocacy required.
  • Experience and/or training in computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point required.
  • Experience in the following preferred:
    • Health Equity.
    • Language and translation.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to perform group presentations, tactfully discuss issues, and listen to and understand concepts, rules, and procedures. Ability to work with all levels within the organization, facilitate communication, and effectively document related activities.
  • Ability to identify complex problems, review related information and data, employ critical and alternative thinking to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Ability to be highly organized, multi-task, and be detailed oriented to document action plans and project management.
  • A collaborator who is a self-motivated team player.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
