General Summary:

The Patient Access Trainer oversees and delivers training via classroom, online and one-on-one sessions for all employees involved in front-end revenue cycle access and clinic support services. Specifically, the position is responsible for providing operational training on systems technical required for obtaining patient information, registration, and scheduling. The Patient Access Trainer will maintain a solid understanding of the overall integration of business applications, as well as provide training and support to staff members.

Key responsibilities of this role include oversight of training activities to reinforce appropriate system usage in the delivery of robust patient centered care, participation in pre-production simulations, workflow integration, testing, and validation of system functionality. This role also participates in curriculum development, training enhancements, creation, as well as collaborates with key stakeholders for all supported business applications and competencies related to patient access.

Responsibilities:

  • Training Materials Development & Maintenance: Develops policies and procedures as needed. Creates training, reference and performance materials which support and monitor all programs and processes. Continuously revises and updates materials, as required. Develop and implement curriculum for the training of Front-End. Assess staff members. Assess the effectiveness of training by follow-up with new and current employees. Ensure training material and program are effective and current. Coordinate the implementation of applicable revenue cycle policies with Hospital Access managers, Medical Group managers and Service Line managers.
  • Registration Systems & Process Training: Provide non-clinical HIS system training to registration staff members including the Patient Access and ancillary departments. Serve as a resource and the primary point of contact for questions and assistance. Provide web-based insurance eligibility and benefit training, including government and commercial third-party payers. Provide new hire and ongoing training on Point of Service (POS) collections to help meet established targets. Identifies and reports technical issues in a timely manner.
  • Quality Assurance/Compliance Audits: Responsible for the monitoring and facilitating the correction of registration-related errors. Provide Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP), Medical Necessity, No Surprise Act, and Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) training to ensure compliance of all regulatory agencies.
  • Reporting: Monitors user performance, providing regular feedback, including compliance data, as instructed by the department director. To provide oral and written reports as needed. Routinely attend in-service and other meetings, as required.
  • Education: Participate in professional development activities, as assigned. Evaluate learner performance to gauge educational needs for assigned training areas personnel. Collaborate with institutional front- end practice staff to enhance technical skills and to improve operational efficiency. Become knowledgeable in the duties of practices of assigned subspecialities and surgeries.

Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:


  • Education: High School Diploma or GED ;
  • Credential(s): None Required
  • Experience: Required: Three (3) years healthcare experience in the revenue cycle or IT experience related revenue cycle. Experience with video conferencing platforms; zoom, WebEx, teams or and/or others.

Preferred: Five (5) years healthcare experience in the revenue cycle or 5 years IT experience related to revenue cycle. Experience delivering technical in-person and virtual trainings. Five (5) years’ experience training personnel at a multi-specialty practice or hospital revenue cycle training.
