Job Description

Here at UHCW we are looking for a highly motivated , enthusiastic team player looking to join large theatre department that consists of 22 operating theatres. The post holder will provide clinical leadership to ensure a high level of operational effectiveness and a safe working environment in a way that supports all staff. To work through organisational limitations and with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate the operational management of main theatres on a day-to-day basis. To work closely with all specialities to optimise patient flow. The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of day-to-day effective management of theatre lists, including the running of services and allocation of staff. They will be responsible for directing and overseeing main theatres daily activities closely with the Manager of the day (MOD) for Theatres.

General Responsibilities

  • Ensure all theatre staff is efficiently deployed and there is sufficient skill mix to support optimum service delivery. Ensuring that patient safety and staff well-being is always maintained.
  • Checking work rotas on daily basis to cover the needs of the department.
  • Respond accordingly to the variable requirements of theatre activity as it changes during day, prioritizing, to meet service needs.
  • Demonstrate highly developed knowledge and experience of all clinical specialities and services requirements.
  • Liaise with medical and ward staff to maximise the efficient running lists.
  • Recording of absence and maintain documentation within the department correctly in line with trust policy, procedures and guidelines e.g. sickness, absence issues and disciplinary procedure, following through with appropriate actions and advice as necessary.
  • A resource for staff, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures / guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.
  • Using effective communication in the distribution and understanding of information, ensuring all relevant individuals and departments obtain appropriate information and updates.
  • Support patients, carers and staff during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g. following an unexpected event.
