Job Description

Qualifications: A Master’s degree in Wildlife Sciences/ Conservation/ Conservation Sociology / Environmental Policy is essential. A Ph. D. in a related subject in the field of Wildlife Sciences/Conservation is desirable

Work Experience And Essential Qualities

  • Minimum work experience of 9-12 years required in wildlife science, protected area management planning, wildlife corridor study, human-wildlife conflict mitigation and management, community engagement in conservation and training and capacity building of stakeholders in relevant subject.
  • Candidate must have in-depth knowledge of protected area management in India and should have experience working with protected area authorities.
  • The candidate should have demonstrable knowledge and, or experience with various stakeholders in human-wildlife conflict management and corridor securement.
  • Candidate should be abreast of latest technical and scientific developments and publications in the field.
  • Working knowledge of GIS and local language is essential.
  • Ability to work in a team is highly desirable.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate having working experience on conservation issues in Nilgiri landscape, Shola forest and Western Ghats.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure project objectives related to protected area, habitat connectivity, landscape management and human wildlife conflict management are delivered to essential quality standards.
  • To read, assimilate, analyse different management and working plans of protected areas and forests (English & local language) and input to improving the plans.
  • To compile best practices in conservation and management of landscapes for biodiversity and ecosystem services, and assess the suitable ones for integration in protected area management plans.
  • To conduct need assessment, planning, designing and administering training and capacity building activities.
  • To plan project activities in conjunction with protected area authorities.
  • Develop local level conflict mitigation plans in line with national and state policy and relevant national level statutes
  • Design studies, data collection, data analysis on Project deliverables
  • Writing project reports, scientific papers, white papers, case studies on the project for circulation among the stakeholders.
  • Provide technical assistance with development of project plans and activities and provide guidance to field staff on biological and sociological aspects of landscape management.
