Position Overview:
PBS takes a multiplatform approach to content development, distribution, and marketing. This position supports the growth and engagement of digital and social audiences and properties, including initiatives to increase discoverability, content engagement, brand awareness, and streaming success, leveraging PBS and third-party platforms to benefit member stations and PBS audiences.
The Content and Social Marketing Manager for Henry Louis Gates, Jr, manages content marketing strategy and digital production execution for Henry Louis Gates, Jr touchpoints on digital and social platforms. This includes managing streaming across PBS platforms, supporting content marketing strategy, and project managing the full life cycle of each Professor Gates film. The role will also partner with the program producers to develop and manage an always-on social media strategy and will manage all Professor Gates content shared on the PBS social channels.
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
CONTENT MARKETING
- Manage digital content curation and publishing for Henry Louis Gates, Jr. content across PBS digital platforms.
- Manage content marketing and video content distribution planning with program producer, to ensure PBS and partner video channels (Henry Louis Gates, Jr. YouTube channel, etc.) are coordinated.
- Help strengthen discoverability and findability for Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Content across PBS Owned channels, YouTube and Google, ensuring content planning is using SEO best practices.
- Monitor data to help program producer set goals and formulate strategies to strengthen content marketing strategy, including improving discoverability, engagement, streams, view duration, and time on site.
- Review contractual deliverables to help producer payment processes.
- Represent PBS content marketing interests in meetings for Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
SOCIAL MEDIA
- Support program producer with social media content planning initiatives for Henry Louis Gates, Jr. content, including social channel prioritization, social asset recommendations (images, video content, stop motion, etc.), content plans and roadmaps, copy and messaging development, and reposting initiatives across PBS and partner social channels.
- Plan, monitor, strengthen, and maintain presences for Henry Louis Gates, Jr. on PBS’ key social media channels (e.g. Tiktok, Instagram, Facebook); seek and lead new opportunities for PBS social media outposts and experimentation.
- Help support real-time social engagement and contribute to daily editorial and content calendar oversight.
- Working with program producer, review and analyze data to help set goals and formulate strategies that increase engagement and exposure.
- Represent PBS social interests at various events and meetings for Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
Requirements for success:
- Minimum 4 years of experience in digital publishing or media production; with experience in content strategy, social media management, content creation, interactive media production, mobile web, and/or interactive media development
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, media, or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience in digital content production and project management may be considered
- Experience working on cross-functional teams including creative, social, technical, business affairs and marketing staff
- Experience with making autonomous editorial decisions
- Project management experience on complex, cross-functional projects with various stakeholders
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to collaborate across teams and with all levels of staff
- Ability to plan, prioritize, organize and execute overlapping assignments
- Digital and social-first content creation experience is a plus.
- Video editing background is a plus.
- Remote experience preferred
