Vice President of Information Technology

Job Description

We are currently seeking a Vice President of Information Technology that would be responsible for leading the strategic direction and execution of the credit union’s technology initiatives. The role will oversee IT operations, manage technology resources and ensure the security and efficiency of our information technology systems. As a member of the senior leadership team, the VP of IT will collaborate with leadership to align technology strategies with business goals to enhance internal and external member service through innovative solutions. This role will manage the IT budget ensuring cost-effective solutions are adhering to financial goals.

Hours: Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm, with once a month after hours board meetings and as needed weekends.

Location: 1509 Baltimore Drive, Ames, IA 50010

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the IT department, ensuring high availability and reliability of systems. Manage, direct, oversee, and ensure the efficiency of Computer Operations, Telecommunications, Information Systems, LAN/WAN Networks, and PC systems. Ensures that Information services’ systems are secure, properly backed-up, and appropriately documented.
  • Build, mentor and leads the Information Technology team, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning and professional growth to, achieve optimal team performance. Promote open communication and transparency through team meetings, on the spot coaching, one-on-ones and establish clear performance metrics. Inform the team of any policy, procedural or program change.
  • Direct resource allocation and proper execution across technology functions (e.g., infrastructure, application support and vendor solutions) to maintain service level objectives and support organizational expansion and transformation initiatives. Develop consistent, repeatable project management delivery methodologies within IT and implement effective collaboration with business units.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication and coordination with Credit Union employees and leadership. Ensures that Information Systems functions are well coordinated with other Credit Union operations. Keeps the COO and Board of Directors informed of Information Systems, progress toward established objectives, and advises on issues critical to Members, the performance of the business services or significant challenges. Appropriately evaluates, manages and mitigates risk within IT area . Completes required reports and records. Build relationships and negotiate agreements with key vendors. Attends and participates in meetings and committees as required.
  • Creates, maintains and enforces written policies and procedures regarding all data processing and infrastructure. Provides leadership in the development of systems security to ensure compliance with financial, regulatory and industry requirements. Ensure business continuity through resources allocation and development if IT Disaster Recovery plan. Performs security assessments on all systems and resolves any discovered issues.
  • Stays informed of industry trends and changes in the information services field. Researches and evaluates emerging technology to enhance operational efficiency and recommends strategic paths forward to keep the Credit Union progressive and competitive.

Knowledge And Skills

Experience: Eight to ten years of similar or related experience, preferably in a financial institution. Minimum of 3 years direct supervisory experience.

Education:(1) A bachelor’s degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor’s degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).

Interpersonal Skills

Work frequently involves exercising advanced conflict resolution, giving material presentations, and resolving issues impacting multiple departments or divisions. Role also requires the ability to motivate or influence others as a material part of the role, with a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the role and a high level of interpersonal skills is critical to the success of this position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand; walk; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
