The Data Architect plays a critical role in driving technology initiatives to enhance health informatics and analytics within the health sciences. This role focuses on optimizing the usability, performance, and overall architecture of the enterprise data warehouse. The Data Architect will be responsible for developing data extraction, transformation, and loading processes between source and target data structures, while also supporting junior developers working on development of data warehouse, in collaboration with data architecture and other stakeholders. Additionally, the Data Architect will actively contribute to data modeling and data mapping activities.

The ideal candidate will write efficient, high-performance, and scalable code, with a thorough knowledge of the internal workings of SQL Server and other database systems. This position plays a pivotal role in supporting UCLA Health’s initiatives aimed at improving clinical, financial, and operational outcomes. Thus, the Data Architect should have a deep understanding of clinical, financial, and operational challenges, as well as the ability to identify and work with targeted healthcare datasets (both structured and unstructured) to address these issues.

Salary Range: $102,500 – $227,700 Annually

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in CS/IT/Engineering or related field required
  • Seven years minimum of strong work experience in the design, development, and support of terabyte scale data warehouses required
  • Strong SQL programming skills, particularly Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle
  • Strong understanding of relational and dimensional modeling, data mining and ETL design processes
  • Proficiency with the Azure Ecosystem and Azure Data Factory
  • Programming expertise in languages like C# and Python
  • Strong experience in Business Intelligence tools like SSIS, SSRS and SSAS
  • Experience in analysis, data relationships, data aggregation, and summarization with the ability to consolidate data from disparate systems
  • Expertise in database architecture, storage and Query Optimizer
  • Good architectural understanding of reporting tools like Tableau and PowerBI
  • Experience working in agile software development environment is a plus
  • Knowledge of MPP databases like Azure SQL Data warehouse/Redshift is preferred
  • Work experience with health care data is preferred
