An incredible opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service as an OO6 Ranger based at Lake Eacham.

Your Role

As the successful OO6 Ranger, you will lead and manage a team of six rangers to plan and implement vital work plans and initiatives. This will include strategic development and execution of fire, pest, and asset maintenance programs across the Southern Tablelands’ 21 diverse estates, ranging from Forest Reserves to National Parks. The position emphasizes infrastructure development, natural and cultural resource management, and extensive public interaction to accommodate the high visitor influx.

Responsibilities

Lead annual work programs, focusing on recreational and infrastructure maintenance.

Oversee park management projects, including park infrastructure and conservation initiatives.

Efficiently manage plant operation, natural and cultural resource management, fire defense, weed, and pest control.

Build strong relationships with stakeholders, such as local landholders, traditional owners, and conservation groups, ensuring collaborative land management efforts.

Conduct administrative duties aligned with departmental guidelines and manage financial resources for project outcomes.

Facilitate engagement and educational activities for the public, enhancing their park experience, and oversee compliance and enforcement activities.

Coordinate emergency responses, including natural disaster planning and wildfire procedures.

Eligibility

You must be an Australian citizen or hold a residency status or visa permitting you to undertake employment in Australia.

Formal qualifications in environmental science, natural resource management, or related fields are highly regarded.

The position requires the holder to possess an unrestricted manual driver’s license and be skilled in operating four-wheel-drive vehicles and various departmental equipment.
