The City of Lenexa Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for summer and year-round Lifeguards. This role is a great opportunity to gain customer service and teamwork skills while serving the community at one of our three facilities:

  • Flat Rock Creek: 13120 W. 103rd St.
  • Lenexa Rec Center: 17201 W. 87th St. Pkwy
  • Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center: 8801 Greenway Ln

Schedule

This position requires weekday, weekend, and holiday availability. Applicants will provide their availability (specific days and hours) during the application process, which will be reviewed as part of the hiring decision. In addition, every lifeguard must attend continued in-service training to ensure retention of skills.

Position Summary

Lifeguards ensure the safe and enjoyable operation of the City’s swimming pools. Responsibilities include supervising patrons, enforcing facility rules, performing first aid and emergency procedures, and maintaining pool cleanliness and daily operations. Lifeguards play a key role in promoting safety and providing excellent customer service to all visitors.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 15 years old.
  • Successful completion of the following skills assessment:
    • Swim 300 yards continuously (freestyle or breaststroke). Goggles are allowed.
    • Surface dive to a depth of 13 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object and swim 20 yards back within the allotted time.
    • Tread water for 2 minutes in deep water without using arms for stability.
  • Strong customer service and emergency response skills.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training with Waterpark module, CPR, and First Aid/AED certifications (or ability to obtain before employment). Training classes are provided at no cost to candidates through the City of Lenexa.

Starting rate of pay is $15.50 per hour with annual raises.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successfully passing a drug screen. A background check is required for applicants aged 18 and older.
