Coordinator – Duty Lawyer

Job Description

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced administrator to take on a position in an agency that provides services to vulnerable and disadvantaged people.

As the coordinator, you are responsible for administering the duty lawyer program in Queensland including procuring services by tender, developing and implementing policies and providing advice to suppliers.

In This Role You Will

  • Coordinate or manage the duty lawyer program in Queensland and provide advice and recommendations to Legal Aid Queensland about duty lawyer services.
  • Research, interpret policy and provide high level advice to senior management on major issues and trends arising from the monitoring of operations, and advise on appropriate strategies and actions to be taken.
  • Provide advice to suppliers on matters such as service requirements, supplier performance, government and local purchasing practices to ensure the development and maintenance of sound business relationships.
  • Provide advice and liaise with Magistrates/court staff regarding provision of duty lawyer services.
  • Oversee the duty lawyer accreditation program.

About You

  • You can coordinate, develop and implement policies, strategies, systems and procedures, to ensure the effective delivery of professional services.
  • You have an understanding of contracts, tender processes and procurement processes relevant to the legal service industry.
  • You can prepare written material in a clear, concise and articulate manner and can use information technology systems such as Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel and can learn organisation specific systems.
  • You have knowledge of the Queensland Magistrates Court criminal jurisdiction, systems and procedures and you ideally have knowledge of the Legal Aid Queensland Act and scale of fees.
  • You build and sustain relationships with team members, other colleagues and external stakeholders.
