Roles & Responsibilities
A Metallurgical Engineer at Western Forge & Flange is responsible to establish, maintain and implement process controls surrounding forging processing to improve overall forging quality as per governing standards/ specifications and meet customer requirements.
For this position, day-to-day responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to:
- Develop Technical Data Sheet (Forging, Heat Treatment & Testing requirements) based on material, governing standards, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Review and advise on technical & specific requirements on a customer PO.
- Assist sales department on technical and testing requirement as part of RFQ/ Order review.
- Develop and spear-head R&D job for new material & specifications.
- Verify and validate mill MTR, Laboratory results, Test results, etc.
- Develop product failure analysis based on laboratory test results to determine root causes of problems and develop solutions.
Desired Requirements
- Metallurgy and Material Science — Knowledgeable in forging materials and their applicable mechanical & chemical properties to meet the governing standards/ specification/ requirement.
- Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, forging, heat treatment and its production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effectiveness of the material.
- Science — Knowledgeable in testing methods, laboratory methodology and scientific process and methods to problem resolution.
- Communication – Ability to communicate with the team verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency – Knowledgeable in computer literacy, including but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Competency – Minimum Requirements
- B.S. Metallurgical Engineering Degree (Mechanical Engineering Degree with concentration in Metallurgy)
- Minimum 5 years of Forging/ Foundry Metallurgy Experience
- Knowledgeable in ASME, ASTM, API, AMS, MIL. SPEC, EB/ NAVY, ASNT, etc.
