Position Title: Laboratory Technician

Department: Biological and Chemical Sciences

Location: Riverdale, NY

Reports to: Department Chair

Salary: $35, 000 – $37, 000

Start Date: Spring 2025

Appointment: One semester temporary position

Position Summary

The Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences at Manhattan University is seeking a lab technician to set up and help coordinate labs in the department, especially General Chemistry and Topics in Science labs. Applicants with lab setup or lab research experience will be given preference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare setups for the following courses before each class begins: General Chemistry I Lab, General Chemistry II Lab, and Topics in Science I Labs.
  • Prepare chemical reagents and distribute them to the teaching labs.
  • Store chemical waste in approved containers and dispose of them according to state guidelines and regulations.
  • Maintain inventory, order necessary lab supplies, and store materials in their designated spaces.
  • Maintain lab instruments.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of teaching labs.
  • Help the chair with lab coordination and other laboratory-related tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Lab setup and/or lab research experience is preferred.

Skills And Competencies

  • Strong lab skills and good knowledge of chemistry lab operations.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and protocols.
