Exciting Opportunity for a Research Mineralogist and Laboratory Specialist

We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Research Mineralogist and Laboratory Specialist to support our R&D team’s mission in CO₂ mineralization technologies. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in mineral analysis using advanced analytical equipment and a strong understanding of mineral properties and characterization. This role involves performing reaction in an autoclave as well as conducting in-depth mineral analyses, assisting with daily laboratory operations, managing data, and ensuring lab safety to advance our research objectives.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge research in CO₂ mineralization. The successful candidate will be an integral part of our R&D efforts, contributing expertise in mineral analysis and laboratory operations to advance sustainable solutions in carbon capture.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Perform Advanced Mineralogical Analyses: Conduct in-depth analyses using advanced techniques such as X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), ICP-OES, Particle Size Analyser (PSA), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to support CO₂ mineralization research
  • Support R&D Team with Lab Operations: Assist with daily laboratory operations, including sample preparation, equipment maintenance, and performing both routine and complex experiments to advance research projects.
  • Operate High-Pressure, High-Temperature Reactors: Play a key role in supporting lab-scale experiments using high-pressure, high-temperature reactors for CO₂ mineralization studies.
  • Manage Data and Documentation: Organize, maintain, and record accurate research data, ensuring it’s properly stored and compliant with lab standards. Contribute to the development and refinement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure Lab Safety: Maintain a safe and organized work environment by adhering to safety protocols and updating safety datasheets and risk assessments.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with scientists, engineers, and other R&D team members to ensure successful experimental design, data interpretation, and project progression.

Your Profile:

  • Educational Background: MSc in Mineralogy, Geology, Material Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of hands-on experience in mineral analysis, with proficiency in techniques such as XRD, XRF, ICP-OES, and SEM.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong technical and analytical skills, with a deep understanding of mineral properties, characterization methods, and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Data Management Skills: Experience with data entry, record-keeping, and maintaining accurate documentation in a research environment.
  • Lab Equipment Familiarity: Familiarity with high-pressure, high-temperature lab equipment is a plus; however, we are happy to provide training for the right candidate.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy and quality in data and procedures.
  • Commitment to Safety: A deep commitment to laboratory safety and compliance with safety regulations and protocols.
