Job Responsibilities
Serves as crew foreman supervising personnel to perform various duties related to drainage structures, patching and installing driveways, laying pipe, catch basin construction and guardrail repair. Operates motorized equipment used in the construction and maintenance of highways and bridges or the movement of materials and supplies used to perform these maintenance activities, as necessary. Maintains weekly and monthly reports and records of time sheets of personnel’s working time, materials used, and cost records via the Highway Maintenance Management System. Recommends personnel actions including promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures. Rates employees yearly according to the Employee Performance Management System. Supervises and ensures a safe work zone for maintenance crews, including flagging operations and road closures. Ensures all employees wear safety equipment during daily activities and when handling hazardous materials and waste. Ensures crew members comply with all department rules and regulations. Assists the Resident Maintenance Foreman in planning and scheduling routine and preventative maintenance; investigates citizen work requests. Conducts safety inspection on assigned vehicles and equipment and instructs crew members on proper vehicle and equipment pre-trip requirements. Ensures employees within the crew complete CDL pre-trip inspections prior to operating a CDL vehicle and equipment. Manages assigned crew in emergency or inclement weather operations; may include on-call personnel for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
Three and one-half (3.5) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal
scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
