Job description
Overview
The Steward plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of kitchen work areas and restaurant equipment at San Diego Marriott Del Mar. This position supports culinary and service teams to ensure a safe, sanitary, and efficient environment that enhances guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Regularly sweep and mop kitchen floors to uphold cleanliness standards.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, trays, and glassware manually or by operating dishwashing machinery.
- Clean and sanitize various kitchen surfaces including worktables, walls, and refrigerators.
- Properly manage waste disposal by servicing garbage cans and handling trash responsibly.
- Sort and process recyclable materials such as bottles.
- Polish silverware and utensils when necessary.
- Move supplies and equipment efficiently between storage and work areas.
- Assist with banquet table arrangements as needed.
- Support basic food preparation, including washing and peeling vegetables.
- Organize and rotate stock in designated storage spaces, maintaining cleanliness and order.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Required Attributes and Skills
- Keen attention to hygiene, sanitation, and safety protocols.
- Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Reliable team member with a solid work ethic.
- Flexibility to undertake diverse kitchen and stewarding tasks.
- Good organizational skills to maintain neat workspaces and inventory areas.
Experience and Education
- Prior experience in stewarding, kitchen support, or hospitality is preferred.
- Knowledge of commercial dishwashing machinery and cleaning routines is advantageous.
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, high-volume setting.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
