Security Officer

Position Overview

The Security Officer will be responsible for overseeing the safety and security of the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) facilities and assets located in Accra. The role requires vigilant monitoring of all access points, ensuring protocols to safeguard equipment and restricted zones are strictly enforced, and responding efficiently to any security concerns or emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and control entry and exit points at NMEP premises, verifying and recording all visitors, contractors, personnel, and vehicles.
• Carry out thorough security inspections of individuals, vehicles, luggage, and parcels entering or departing the site.
• Protect NMEP assets including equipment and supplies from theft, damage, or unauthorized access.
• Conduct routine patrols, supervise CCTV surveillance, alarms, and other security technology; ensure all gates, doors, and windows remain secured, especially after official working hours.
• Promptly address security alarms, emergencies, and distress signals; coordinate evacuation procedures and deliver basic first aid when necessary.
• Investigate and document any security violations or incidents; maintain detailed records of visitors and vehicle movements; liaise with law enforcement agencies as needed.
• Identify potential security vulnerabilities and suggest improvements to enhance overall facility protection.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possession of at least a Senior High School certificate or equivalent; holders of Higher National Diploma and accredited certificates in Security Management or related fields will be preferred.
• A minimum of two years' proven experience as a security officer or guard, ideally within government organizations, public health institutions, or similar.
• Practical experience using CCTV systems, access control platforms, or other electronic security devices is advantageous.
• Exposure to environments involving international partners or programs is a plus.

Competencies

• Thorough knowledge of security protocols, access controls, and facility protection, especially within public or healthcare-related settings.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English; proficiency in at least one local Ghanaian language is beneficial.
• Capability to remain composed, make decisive decisions, and act effectively during security threats or emergency situations.
• Skilled in accurate, timely record keeping of security logs, registers, and incident reports.

Location

This role is based in Accra, Greater Accra Region, Ghana.
