About Glencore Port Operations
Glencore's Townsville Operations, based in tropical North Queensland, represent the concluding phase of the company's integrated supply chain in the region. This includes Copper Refineries Pty Ltd and Glencore Port Operations. The Port of Townsville serves as the key export hub for North Queensland's mineral concentrates and third-party products, connecting them to global markets. Role Overview
The Operator position supports the safe, efficient, and dependable functioning of Townsville Port facilities. Reporting directly to the Supervisor – Operations, this role involves working a rotating schedule of four days on and four days off, 12-hour shifts covering both day and night. The operator will carry out operational and basic maintenance tasks associated with port infrastructure, engaging directly with large-scale material handling systems in an industrial setting. This position is suited to individuals who take initiative, enjoy physical work, and maintain strict safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate port machinery and facilities safely to aid in rail unloading, stockpile management, and ship loading activities.
- Carry out daily operational duties related to handling mineral concentrate and fertiliser product flows.
- Monitor plant and equipment conditions, promptly reporting any faults or irregularities.
- Support routine maintenance to enhance equipment reliability and availability.
- Conduct all tasks in compliance with site safety policies, permits, and procedures.
- Maintain clear communication with supervisors and teammates for operational coordination.
- Assist with safe start-ups, shutdowns, and operational changeovers as necessary.
- Keep accurate operational records and complete required documentation.
- Ensure clean, organized, and compliant work areas through proper housekeeping.
- Collaborate effectively with other operational teams, contractors, and service providers.
Candidate Requirements
- A proactive, self-motivated approach and the ability to collaborate well within teams.
- Experience in heavy industrial environments is advantageous.
- Familiarity with material handling operational roles is preferred.
- Possession of a forklift license (LF, RIIHAN201D) is desirable.
- Experience operating wheeled front-end loaders is beneficial.

Additional Information
This role is based in Townsville and operates on a residential basis. The roster is a 4 days on, 4 days off system with 12-hour shifts, including nights, plus additional hours as required.
