Job description

Position Overview

The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and delivering detailed electrical estimates for project proposals within the industrial sector. The role encompasses providing estimating guidance for project teams, creating conceptual and detailed cost analyses, updating and maintaining historical cost databases, and helping improve department estimation procedures. Collaboration and leadership on estimating tasks will also be required.

The company self-performs disciplines such as civil, structural steel erection, heavy mechanical installation, process piping, and electrical/instrumentation controls. Contract models vary from turnkey, EPC, design-build to conventional discipline-specific agreements. Location

This position is based in Ganotec’s Oakville office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate cost estimates for major projects locally and nationwide.
  • Prepare detailed and comprehensive estimates for complex large-scale work.
  • Analyze owners’ plans and specifications to understand project scope and form practical construction strategies guiding the estimate.
  • Review tender documents and liaise with legal departments as needed.
  • Coordinate with planning, scheduling, procurement, and proposal teams.
  • Calculate installation quantities from project drawings and specifications.
  • Present estimates clearly to management and clients.
  • Participate in continuous process improvements for estimation methodologies.
  • Maintain strong professional relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or similar discipline; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ electrical estimating experience on major industrial projects.
  • In-depth understanding of the Canadian construction market.
  • Strong English communication skills; French proficiency is an asset.
  • Effective presentation and negotiation capabilities.
  • Advanced computer proficiency, including MS Office; familiarity with BlueBeam software is advantageous.
  • Experience with industrial, hydro, oil & gas, or mining sectors is beneficial.
  • Willingness to travel for site visits or client meetings as needed.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, adaptable team player capable of handling multiple tasks and deadlines.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary ranges from $85,000 to $125,000 annually, dependent on experience, education, skills, and location.
