About the company

Bending Spoons aims to build a long-lasting, high-performing business that reaches a very large customer base, helps its people develop at exceptional speed, delivers strong value for shareholders, and operates to very high ethical standards. The company acquires and improves digital products with the intention of owning and running them for the long term, making substantial changes to increase innovation, customer value, and business performance. Teams are intentionally small, highly capable, and low on hierarchy, and the company combines startup-like speed with deep use of AI across day-to-day work so that human judgment and machine intelligence strengthen one another.

For someone talented, motivated, and collaborative, this role is designed to offer rapid learning, meaningful impact, and unusually fast career growth.

What you’ll do

  • Take end-to-end responsibility for software that has real user impact, building and improving systems used by millions.
  • Use modern AI tools throughout the engineering workflow, including design, coding, testing, and documentation, while still maintaining strong standards for correctness, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Work across a broad technical landscape and choose the most appropriate tools for each problem, spanning monoliths, microservices, gRPC, REST, Kubernetes, Docker, Python, and Rust.
  • Continuously reduce unnecessary complexity by improving architecture, pipelines, and codebases so they become easier to scale and maintain.

What the company looks for

  • Strong analytical and reasoning ability, with the capacity to solve difficult problems from first principles and communicate ideas clearly.
  • High drive, ambition, initiative, and persistence, along with a strong sense of ownership and personal accountability.
  • A collaborative mindset that values the best solution over personal preference, contributes freely, and supports teammates whenever needed.
  • Professional fluency in English for reading, writing, and speaking.

What you can expect

  • Small, entrepreneurial, and highly capable teams with a strong focus on outcomes.
  • A steep growth curve, with opportunities to take on important responsibility early and work on valuable products and projects.
  • Competitive compensation plus access to company equity for permanent contracts, with pay varying by location, experience, and expected impact.
  • Flexible hours, remote work, unlimited support for learning and training, high-quality health insurance, relocation support, parental benefits, and an annual retreat.
  • A flexible start date and the possibility to begin part-time and move into full-time while completing a degree.

Contract and location

This role can be permanent or fixed-term and is full-time. The listed work locations are Milan, Madrid, Warsaw, London, or fully remote from eligible countries.

Selection process

The hiring process focuses on evidence of excellence rather than seniority. Every applicant is assessed through the same process, and there are no special routes beyond what the application itself shows. Candidates who are invited forward may complete one or more challenging tests that can take several hours and may include unfamiliar problem types. The company also notes that roles may stay open for a long time or be reposted if the right person has not yet been found.

Important notes

Applicants who may need accommodations because of a disability can request reasonable support. If you have applied before and were not selected for an offer, the recommendation is to wait at least one year before applying again. The company also emphasizes that it is highly demanding and expects significant commitment in exchange for strong learning and growth.

Onboarding and work arrangement

To help new hires get up to speed quickly, they are expected to spend most days in the Milan office during the first few months, regardless of the final long-term location. This is intended to speed up cultural onboarding and trust-building with teammates. Travel and accommodation support is provided for this period. After that, work may be done from an office or remotely from approved countries, subject to the final agreement at offer stage.
