Position Overview

The Small Works Estimator plays an essential role within Dexterra’s Integrated Facilities support team, reporting to the Operations Team Lead. This position involves estimating for projects throughout Canada, primarily in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and architectural replacements and renovations. The estimator collaborates with trade leads, clients, and operations personnel to deliver accurate, timely cost projections essential for project success and profitability.

Core Responsibilities

• Analyze drawings, specifications, and participate in pre-bid meetings to fully understand project scope.
• Prepare pricing for Mechanical and Plumbing Small Works quotes accurately.
• Create and validate detailed cost estimates covering labor, materials, transportation, and subcontracting, including contingency and risk assessment.
• Work closely with Operations and partners to develop pricing strategies.
• Enhance estimating tools, models, and overall processes.
• Conduct post-bid and job cost analyses to support continuous improvement.
• Assist with presentations and proposal preparations as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

• Technical training in construction or equivalent experience combining technical expertise and estimating skills.
• Post-secondary education is preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially spreadsheets and word processing applications.
• Experience in small works or institutional construction environments.
• Knowledge of commercial construction estimating is an asset.
• Capability to read and interpret building plans, specifications, and blueprints.
• Strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
• Competency in cost-estimating software for creating bids and quotations.
• Excellent organizational, time management, decision-making, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Self-motivated with ability to manage varying workloads and prioritize to meet deadlines.
