Overview
The Senior Munitions Inspector serves as the subject matter expert and primary consultant for the US Air Force's Munitions Surveillance Program (MSP). This role involves managing the Department's MSP and the certification and qualification of inspectors per DAFMAN 21-201 standards. Responsibilities include performing detailed inspections of munitions to assess serviceability, detect hazards or deterioration, and documenting findings within the Theater Integrated Combat Munitions System (TICMS). Compliance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and adherence to Amentum's ISO 9001 Quality Management System are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee MSP administration consistent with DAFMAN 21-201 requirements, including training, certification, and evaluation of munitions inspectors, ensuring stockpile reliability.
- Provide expert advice to the Munitions Superintendent regarding MSP activities and recommend improvements.
- Supervise surveillance methods and inspector performance to prevent negative trends.
- Utilize and assess TICMS data products for stockpile accuracy.
- Conduct munitions and container inspections following 11A-1-10 and related technical directives.
- Enforce USAF and host nation explosives safety, occupational safety, and security protocols during all munitions operations.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, implementing control measures.
- Perform all munitions-related tasks adhering to quality and technical standards, identifying issues and developing durable solutions.
- Accurately record serviceability and accountability actions promptly.
- Coordinate with Accountability Section and USAF MASO to address discrepancies during surveillance or inventory activities.
- Conduct warehouse inventories, resolve discrepancies, and assess potential negative trends.
- Integrate USAF custody accounts within the master surveillance framework.
- Manage inspection and certification of munitions brass, residue, and containers per 11A-1-60.
- Repair, refurbish, and replace defective or absent munitions parts and containers.
- Execute munitions storage procedures following DOD/USAF explosives standards.
- Assess munitions production and equipment to identify and rectify negative trends.
- Operate and inspect electronic testing equipment, metal strapping, stencil machinery, heat sealers, pneumatic paint sprayers, compressors, and power tools per standards.
- Prepare and conduct general and explosives safety briefings before operations.
- Perform entry control duties as assigned.
- Work extended hours including standby during peacetime and combat contingency operations.
- Operate in office, maintenance shop, warehouse, and outdoor environments as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Intermediate knowledge of USAF Supply and Technical Order systems or equivalent in other US services.
- Intermediate understanding of current Munitions Information Systems relevant to Precision Guided Munitions activities.
- Proficiency in personal computer use, Windows OS, and Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
- Ability to operate material handling equipment as needed.
- Possession of valid home country driver’s license and eligibility for host nation driver’s license.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of formal USAF Munitions Systems training or equivalent US service training.
- Eligibility to meet Senior Munitions Inspector prerequisites per DAFMAN 21-201.
- At least 2 years of recent (within 48 months) experience as USAF Munitions Inspector or recent completion (within 48 months) of USAF Munitions training courses.
- Minimum seven years of experience in USAF or equivalent military munitions roles.
- At least five years of supervisory experience in USAF munitions activities and material handling equipment or equivalent.
- Capability to attend the USAF Munitions Inspector course.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Security Clearance (US citizenship required).
- Willingness to use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) according to procedures.
- Physical capability to perform duties with ability to lift, push, or pull minimum 50 lbs.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Normal color vision and depth perception.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with USAF munitions storage, maintenance, control, and inspection procedures.
- Familiarity with TICMS, MC2, TMRS, and IMDS/DPAS management and usage for munitions and material handling equipment.
- Intermediate forklift and tractor trailer operation skills.
- Community College of the Air Force degree in Munitions Management.
