Position Overview
The Senior DevOps Engineer will be central to building, deploying, automating, and maintaining cloud infrastructure platforms tailored to support integrated source control, build, test, and release processes. This role demands a focus on managing complexity, compliance, and quality for software product releases and testing tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure high availability of cloud infrastructure for both internal and external users, meeting defined service targets.
- Oversee cloud build, automated testing, and deployment servers across production and development environments.
- Maintain and improve scripts supporting build, test, and deployment pipelines.
- Respond to live production support incidents promptly, then implement enhancements to reduce future support demands.
- Monitor alerts actively and implement solutions to minimize recurring issues.
- Design and deploy enhancements to automation processes within the infrastructure.
- Develop and manage backup and disaster recovery strategies.
- Optimize and implement cost-saving measures aligned with cloud service improvements.
- Manage setup and allocation of environments tailored for specific customers.
- Coordinate infrastructure changes through review processes and communicate planned downtime with timely status updates.
- Administer automated build, integration, and testing systems ensuring reliable builds upon code check-in and nightly cycles.
- Manage automated deployment to test rigs to maintain comprehensive automated testing coverage.
- Automate release package creation including documentation, release notes generated from developer commits, and tools for various customer configurations.
- Provide real-time feedback on build and test results to developers and stakeholders.
- Maintain transparency on branch and release statuses, automated test results, and coverage for all stakeholders.
- Review design documents to guide best practices for automated testing and configurations.
- Oversee system security including log monitoring, incident response, and cloud environment safeguarding.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation updating it alongside system changes.
- Administer and support development systems such as Gitlab, GitHub, Jira, build servers, and automated testing environments.
- Ensure build, test, and deployment tools are current and compliant with licensing requirements.
- Provide 24/7 availability of build and test infrastructure, including out-of-hours support to meet SLAs.
- Integrate development tools to enforce workflows and policies effectively.
- Act as a subject matter expert for continuous integration, source control, and branching methodologies.
- Mentor peers and facilitate knowledge sharing on cloud technologies and CI/CD pipelines.
- Drive adoption and exploration of new technologies to align with evolving industry standards, particularly in security and compliance (PCI DSS, Common Criteria).
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum 5 years of experience in systems administration.
- Tertiary qualification in engineering or computer science.
- Proficiency with Amazon Web Services components such as Elastic Beanstalk, EC2, S3, SQS, SNS, CloudWatch, etc.
- Experience with monitoring tools like NewRelic, DataDog, Splunk, and CloudWatch.
- Familiarity with continuous integration tools such as Bamboo, Jenkins, Travis CI, CircleCI.
- Competency in continuous delivery tools like SaltStack, Ansible, Go CD.
- Knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL and NoSQL systems.
- Programming skills including Node.js, JavaScript, Java, Bash, Python, Perl.
- Linux environment expertise (Amazon Linux, CentOS, Ubuntu).
- Experience with tools and technologies like Vagrant, Docker, GitHub, GitLab, Cloud Formation templates.
- Embedded systems knowledge including Embedded C, C++, Yocto, buildroot.
- Familiarity with compiler toolchains, scripting, and build tools (gcc, cmake, makefiles, bash, python).
- Understanding of software development lifecycle processes.
- Strong technical documentation and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal.
- No restrictions on travel.
